Why do we kill people who are killing people
To show that killing people is wrong
What a foolish notion
That war is called devotion
When the greatest warriors are the ones that stand for peaceWar toys are growing stronger
The problems stay the same
The young ones join the army
While general what’s-his-name
Is feeling full of pride
That the army will provide
But does he ask himselfDeath row is growing longer
The problems stay the same
The poor ones get thrown in prison
While warden what’s-his-name
Is feeling justified
But when will he be tried (when justice is denied)
For never asking why…Children are so tender
They will cross the earth if they think they are saving a friend
They get drawn in by patriotic lies
Right before our eyes
They leave our home
And then they find out once they’re all alone
They’re asking the age old question
Why?Holly Near
I saw the news of Osama bin Laden’s death first via Facebook. Most of my friends and I are still working through our feelings on the matter. For those in our generation, he has been framed as the shadowy boogey man on the other side of the world, plotting the destroy our “freedom”…
I remember the night after September 11th, my sister watching the news coverage was concerned for Mr. bin Laden, because it seemed to her that everyone was blaming him with no proof. Her heart went out to him, for being picked on. Later, al Qaeda claimed responsibility, we went to war, we went to war again, and now he’s dead.
I don’t think that I can celebrate this death, or any. I understand that some will celebrate, but I will continue to pray for peace, deep and lasting peace instead.
More later.
